<概要>
Drawing on the concepts of Chinoism, transpacific cultural flows, and popular culture reception, this presentation explores the changing landscape of East Asian popular culture in South America. It traces a historical trajectory from early Latin American imaginaries of Asia to the rise of Japanese anime and manga fandoms and, more recently, the expansion of the Korean Wave (Hallyu). Focusing primarily on Chile while situating it within broader South American trends, the talk examines how anime and manga communities provided important foundations for the reception of K-pop and other Korean cultural products. Rather than viewing Hallyu as a sudden rupture or a simple replacement of Japanese cultural influence, the presentation argues that it represents a new phase in a longer process through which South Americans have imagined, consumed, and engaged with East Asia. By examining these
continuities and transformations, the talk sheds light on the evolving cultural connections linking South America and East Asia in the twenty-first century.
